Hunting - Sometimes when you do the math you are wrong or if you give an incorrect interpretation of them and if you look closely at those numbers, something does not add up.
We are aware, and it is not the first time that we have said it, that even a single victim, a single injured person, especially if it occurs due to a poor or incorrect application of safety principles, is a defeat for all of us.
But we are equally aware, just like all people endowed with reasonableness and not conditioned by ideological preconceptions, that any human activity, even the apparently safest one, even being between the four walls of the home (and it is no coincidence that deaths from domestic accidents are the most numerous in absolute numbers, even higher than those at work), involves a percentage of risk that can be lowered, but not completely eliminated.
We have been working on this for years, and although there is still a lot to do, inform and raise awareness among practitioners on correct attitudes to keep when handling a shotgun, this constant commitment has led to results - that is, a decrease in the number of victims. and of accidents also detected by anti-hunting associations, however more serious - which are an encouragement to continue on a path that has proved to be the right one.
Having said this, and reiterating that even one death is too much, we cannot fail to underline that the 16 fatal accidents among hunters this season and 1 among non-hunters as well as the 61 injuries detected with the usual attention again this year by the CNCN and the Hunting Associations, are numbers very different from those, the most unscrupulous make them arrive in the hundreds, widespread in these days. Figures that can only be reached - but after years at least we managed to make him declare it expressly - counting, for example, also illnesses that could affect anyone in any place, from the stadium to the seat at home.
Since these data are used to create social alarmism and direct the opinion of Italians, we conclude by recalling that in these days Eurispes presented the 2016 Italy Report, an appreciated point of reference for scholars, institutions, the information system and international observers, which certainly cannot be accused by anyone of being biased towards hunting.
The report highlights that Italians opposed to hunting are the 68,5%, a figure that was abundantly underlined by the anti-huntsmen obviously in support of their campaigns. However, they forget to say with equal emphasis that the percentage of opponents last year was 10% higher. Therefore, a decline in opposites that does not seem to be underestimated and which obviously means that despite all the campaigns and equipment, the Italians have realized that the reality of hunting and of those who practice it is very different from what they want. tell.
Faced with a few days of hunting, strictly regulated and sustainable from a scientific point of view, Italian hunters are committed daily to the protection of biodiversity, managing the territory, environment and fauna, guarding against poaching, operating at the service of public administrations free of charge. in operations of environmental control and restoration, at the service of all citizens and by filling the gaps left in this sector by the reform of the provinces and the reorganization of the provincial police corps, where possible with the utmost commitment. Personnel, hours of work, even economic commitment, which represent important numbers. But these, the anti-hunts, who also know them, do not say them.
