HUNT - "We will start a close dialogue and a common front to be able to redefine more homogeneous KC between Member States, demanding that a secular spirit be recovered, intellectually honest and based on real data and common scientific methods relating to migrant species". These are the words of Hon. Giancarlo Scottà, yesterday, at the conclusion of the conference "Hunting in the European Year of Cultural Heritage - The challenges of today and tomorrow" held at the European Parliament and organized by the Hon. Scottà himself in collaboration with FACE (European Federation for hunting and conservation).
In fact, during the meeting it emerged that there is a profound disambiguity between the calendars and the hunting derogations applied in the various countries of the European Union. Differences that, in some cases, verge on inconsistency, especially between border regions. “The European Commission must determine the criteria for collecting and processing scientific data at the basis of the decisions of the Member States - explained the Hon. Scottà - verify that the same States initiate a dialogue with all stakeholders, region by region, and finally also make sure that the application of hunting calendars and huntable species is homogeneous, also by applying the principles of derogation for healthy colonies . I will submit a question, together with my colleagues to ask Europe to finally take a clear and strong position, to ensure that the European hunting world is no longer the victim of certain extreme environmental visions. Either all the Member States reason with the same scientific traits and with the same approaches, or they will continue to make fun of an entire category which, I recall, generates a not indifferent economy in Italy and in Europe ”.
"On these issues, in Italy we need a reversal, because anti-hunt positions prevail in the institutions - continued Sen. Francesco Bruzzone, focusing on the political and anti-scientific attitude of Ispra (Higher Institute for Protection and Environmental Research) - The sentimental part must not intervene on rational judgments of the management of hunting as it happens. We have some problems that we have not been able to solve that make anti-hunt positions prevail. It is necessary to activate a derogation principle of hunting in some important areas and on very few species that are in an exceptional state of health. I mean a levy that could range from one to two per cent of natural annual mortality and which, therefore, can be considered insignificant ".
"First of all, clarity is needed from the EU Commission to limit, precisely, the attitudes of a purely political nature that manifest themselves in Italy - reiterated Sen. Bruzzone - Attitudes, those of Ispra, which are manifesting themselves above all on the game of the modification of the KC of the Birds Directive, for which the Italian institute has asked for further restrictions. Migratory birds know no borders. The hope is that, in a renewed dialogue, secular and on a scientific basis, between all the Member States and the stakeholders, they will be able to agree on homogeneous dates ”.
