The new hunting calendar
If the monitoring data of the two species allow it, starting from the next hunting season, in Valle d'Aosta, it will be possible to go back to hunting ptarmigan and variable hare. This is the novelty of the 2023-2024 hunting calendar, approved today by the regional council. The document implements the motion approved on 5 October by the Valle Council which committed the regional government to reintroduce the hunting of ptarmigan and variable hare, suspended since 2019.
The conservation of species
"In the resolution there is a footnote that will allow us to start hunting when the monitoring data consider these two species to be in a good state of conservation", explains the regional councilor for agriculture and natural resources Marco Carrel. The hunting calendar, which has obtained the favorable opinion of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (Ispra), also introduces a second novelty, namely the extension of the opening of selective wild boar hunting until 30 June.
Swine fever
“It will always be necessary to notify the forestry station by 17pm the day before - explains Carrel -. This is a measure taken in agreement with Ispra to try to limit the spread of swine fever: even if we don't have any cases in the Aosta Valley, we need to pay attention at the moment” (source: Valle d'Aosta Region).
