The law defines both explicitly and tacitly the means not allowed for hunting.
Smooth-bore shotguns with a caliber greater than 12 (such as the old calibers 4, 8, 10 or the gunners used in the past in some Italian regions for hunting waterfowl).
Rifled-bore hunting rifles with caliber less than 5,6 mm (e.g. the military caliber 5,56 Nato) and with a case less than 40 mm (e.g. many cases of automatic firearms - submachine guns or semi-automatic - pistols)
