The approval of the amendment relating to live recalls in committee by the Senate relaunches the sustainability of a traditional practice, updating it to the changing times and knowledge. For the hunting a positive challenge to be a driving force for environmental management and the quality of life of the entire country.
The Hunting Associations Federcaccia Arci Caccia, ANUUMigratoristi, Enalcaccia and Liberacaccia, together with the CNCN - National Hunting and Nature Committee express a positive evaluation for the commitment expressed by the Senate to overcome the European infringement procedure on the Italian legislation for "live calls" . The subject is complex, it concerns very articulated sensitivities and, rightly, to find a synthesis, all the stakeholders have been listened to. The work done in the Senate has combined the values and importance of ancient and rooted traditions with the need to respond "scientifically" to the requests for a correct and sustainable management and use of wildlife. In this context, the utmost attention must also be paid to "decoy birds".
The interests of the protection and conservation of “species” are a priority of the hunting world, as well as correspond to what Europe asks for their possession and use in compliance with the rules on animal welfare. Italian hunters ask, without instrumental manipulations, to “experience” the hunting activity as it is in other European countries, where collaboration between hunters, Birdlife-Lipu and farmers is customary. In Italy, the "bearers of ideological prejudices", even on these issues, produce "damage" to a country already in great suffering.
The approved amendment clearly establishes the competences of the central State and of the delegated Government to write the detailed rules for the nets to be used, which must be identical to those used by other European countries and the same for ringing and catching recall purposes. The Government Decree will also regulate the times, quantities and anything else necessary to put the Regions in legal certainty and also avoid past errors.
This is Europe as the Commissioners know well, from whom we ask for linearity and homogeneity of behavior with other countries. The positive challenge, this time, assigns a more important role to science and knowledge to make traditions compatible with the future and in this context the amendment relaunches the fundamental and irreplaceable role of research, also through an Institute, the Ispra - which must be enabled to carry out its duties correctly - and which is sometimes improperly attempted to tug on the part of the "extremists" of the various camps.
The lesson we gather from this experience is to put the hunting world even more at the service of citizens. It is time to resolve the issues of our campaigns also in terms of wildlife and we confirm the will to proceed, with renewed commitment, to the construction of a "Table of common sense, goodwill and collaboration" to compete, also with economics of wildlife management, a better quality of life for all and greater opportunities for the country.
