Pre-opening and more
“We are pleased to learn that the Regional Department has convened the associations to the Wildlife Hunting Council on March 27th to discuss the 2024/25 hunting calendar. We hope that, as we have been asking for years now, the new calendar can include, on the pre-opening day, exceptions to the starling, collared dove and pigeon species, also in light of the historic ruling of the Council of State on the appeal presented by the Liguria Region" . Thus the regional councilor of the League Manuela Puletti “on the eve of the wildlife hunting council convened in the Region in view of the development of the new hunting calendar for Umbria”.
The sentence of the Council of State
“Calendar – explains Puletti – on which the League returns to ask for the inclusion of exemptions to allow pre-opening hunting of some species, as has already been the case for years in the regions bordering us. Even more so in light of the ruling of the Council of State on the appeal presented by the Liguria Region, which obliges Ispra to promptly identify small quantities for non-huntable species by the month of April following requests for exemptions from the Regions. Thus eliminating the alibis of 'no' said in the name of ideological environmentalism. In light of this historic ruling, we return with more force to ask for what should have been done in Umbria in previous years.
The instances of the hunting world
With the pre-openings which have instead generated discontent among Umbrian hunters, due to the programming and management methods. Expanding the huntable species by way of exception would finally allow us to have a pre-opening day worthy of the name it bears, as well as limiting the damage caused by these species in the countryside. We therefore hope, also on the basis of the requests that will certainly emerge from the hunting world during the work of the Consulta, that the Umbrian Department will present the request for huntable species to Ispra by April and that the exemptions will be included in the next hunting calendar. In addition to this - concludes Puletti - we ask to extend the hunting of migratory species until February 10th, within the terms and methods permitted by law" (source: Umbria Region).
