After the decree of the Tar Catania, which has suspended the hunt, the Sicilian Region corrects the shot and issues a new hunting calendar. The provision, signed by the Councilor for Agriculture Toni Scilla, overturns everything and reopens the hunt. The go-ahead for the "double" was made possible thanks to the cancellation of the decrees of 26 July and 24 August, which have been replaced by a new act which substantially accepts the provisions of the TAR with particular reference to the elimination of turtle dove hunting. Furthermore, the Region has adapted to the opinion of Ispra who had said yes to wood pigeon hunting in the pre opening.
And so the pre-opening will start on Saturday, also scheduled for Sunday 5th, Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th September. In these days it will be possible to go hunting only for wood pigeon and wild rabbit. All other species can be hunted from 19 September, the date on which the general opening of the hunting season is scheduled, which will continue until 31 January. Some species, however, can be hunted starting from 2 October, as always suggested by Ispra.
The Sicilian Hunting Council "welcomes the provision of the commissioner Scilla, respectful of the regional and national laws of the sector and also of the opinion of Ispra". While environmental and animal welfare associations are back on a war footing and ask for "an execution accident to the president Tar Catania immediately", also threatening the "transmission of the documents to the Criminal Prosecutors and the Court of Auditors" (Palermo Today).
