A long wait
After a two-year hiatus and a long discussion with the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA) conducted by the Department of Agriculture, the Umbria Region has recently approved the regional plan for the control of the starling (Sturnus vulgaris) which will allow the taking in derogation of the species.
Obstacles overcome
Thanks to the action of the Assessorate and the collaboration of the hunting associations, it was possible to overcome the obstacles encountered and to transmit to ISPRA the necessary summary data on the sampling activities carried out in previous years.
Damage prevention
The levy notwithstanding the transfer, underlines the Regional Councilor, will make it possible to prevent damage to agricultural production, in particular in the vineyards and olive groves which are of significant interest in Umbria both from an economic point of view and in terms of the identity of the regional landscape . This activity can be carried out by trained hunters, authorized by the regional administration at the specific request of farmers, until 15 December (source: Regione Umbria).
