Hunting: the Provincial Council of Varese approved the new Wildlife Hunting Plan but the hunters protest; the territory taken away from hunting is excessive.
Varese hunters angry with the Province of Varese. Reason: too much territory taken away from hunting in the new Provincial Wildlife Plan adopted yesterday evening, December 18 by the council of Villa Recalcati. I vote by majority, with abstention from the opposition, and protests by the hunters. A plan that according to Luigi Roi, Varese president of Federcaccia, "we have tried for two years to change without success, and which was approved this evening without any of our suggestions".
But what specifically do the side-by-side contestants contest? Everything is in one acronym: “TASP” (Agro Silvo Pastorale Territory). According to the hunters, “the overall percentage of TASP protected in the Alps area is equal to 26.2%, while outside the Alps area it is equal to 44,2%. These values largely exceed the limits imposed by art. 13 of Regional Law 26/93, confirming the dramatic reduction of the effective area of the Agro Silvo Pastorale Territory available in the Province of Varese for hunting.
The cause of this decompensation is, clearly, the irrational proliferation of areas where hunting is not allowed far exceeding the legal limits. Against 44,2% of useful TASP subtracted from hunting, there is also an enormous imbalance between the north and south of the province in which the average rises to peaks of 60% ”.
Furthermore, among the proposals presented to the Province there was the hypothesis of “supporting, in the Campo dei Fiori Park, the request for raising the southern and northern boundaries of the natural park that do not coincide with natural boundaries; in the Pinetina Park and in the Ticino Valley Park, the transformation of the prevailing territory into a Regional Park "and to" support the transformation of the Military Zones of Lonate Pozzolo and the area for the alleged expansion (third runway) of Malpensa (Cascina Semprevento) in areas usable for hunting ".
Why was none of these proposals accepted? And why so little territory for hunting, the hunters ask? Councilor Bruno Specchiarelli answers. “Yes it's true, the hunting area in the Varese province is little and compromised: we have 46% of the provincial surface that cannot be hunted and it includes parks, wildlife farms and the distances required by law. Then we have a heavily urbanized south of the province. Now, the proposals coming from the hunters are inadmissible, since they ask to subtract surface from the natural parks: not only do I consider this proposal to be politically wrong, but also not within our competence. Moreover, proposals of this kind feed useless expectations among hunters ”.
"The question of the military areas of Lonate Pozzolo sees me in agreement - concludes Specchiarelli - but even in this case it is not within our competence: already in 2003 I wrote to the Ministry of Defense to submit the problem: certainly, not to practice hunting (we are in areas where planes fly low ...), but for the training of dogs or for restocking. I am still waiting for the reply from Rome ”.
