Hunting: the Municipality of the Tremiti Islands has proposed the identification of two areas within which hunting should be possible for residents only.
With a recent resolution of the Council, the Municipality of the Tremiti Islands has proposed the identification of 2 areas, "one on the island of San Domino and the other on the island of San Nicola", within which it should be possible - to in accordance with the law - the exercise of hunting in the form of controlled hunting reserved for residents only. Among the reasons: with a note dated 31 July 2012, the Municipality of Tremi - of the current mayor Fentini - "asked that the distinction reserved only for citizens of Tremiti be put to an end, which is forbidden, with the perimeter of the Gargano National Park , to carry out hunting activities throughout the municipal territory, unlike any other citizen, resident or not, of the Municipalities falling within the same perimeter ".
The note still reads, "(...) the system of protection restrictions, at sea and on land, have always been such as to force the islanders to leave the island after the summer break, obviously tying their presence to needs due to the exclusively tourist economy of the place ". "All the efforts to avoid the marginalization of the islanders during the winter and autumn months have been shipwrecked because the territory has never offered opportunities to encourage the presence of residents and, therefore, positive and proactive actions for greater social integration of the settled population" , as written in the municipal council resolution.
"The signs of ghettoisation are now evident and imprinted on the faces of the few islanders who are still faithfully tied to their historical roots and it is in their favor that the proposal already made is reiterated here in the hope that it can finally be accepted, thus attracting other more important ones, numerous winter presences ".
"Today, hunting in the Tremiti Islands is practically banned from the constraints extended to the entire territory, without spaces of tolerance or controlled management, unlike elsewhere, where the contiguous areas have been 'discovered' in order to open up condescending opportunities to the activity hunting, on the other hand, is totally forbidden to the islanders at any time of the year. (…) The situation is no longer tolerable, also because controls are absent, and there is a risk of a strong compromise of the credibility of the institutions responsible for observing the prohibition constraint ”, as written in the resolution approved unanimously.
With the deed, the Municipality invites "the competent Ministry of the Environment and the Gargano National Park to review their position, considering that the problem of hunting the Tremiti Islands, also given the absence of the Park, cannot be dismissed with the simplistic motivation of the inclusion of the entire municipal territory in the perimeter of the Gargano National Park, rightly claiming the Tremitese, who is 'Gargano' in all respects, on its territory equal treatment with respect to any other citizen of Gargano (or not) ".
As for the hunting season, "this may be decided by the Puglia Region, in accordance with the law, in a differentiated form compared to other territorial contexts, excluding, for the beginning, the terminal period of the summer season (September and a good part of October ) and including, for the end of the hunting activity, the month of January. The hunting days, as for the other territorial areas, could be three weekly, and precisely Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
As for the hunting times and methods, the species of game that can be hunted, the means of hunting, the game bag allowed, the use of dogs, these elements can be defined with the deliberation of the Regional Council which annually approves the regional hunting calendar.
