A group of goats that have now gone wild for a hard time to the Forestry and hunters of Tiarno di Sotto, a hamlet of Ledro in the province of Trento, who have been trying in vain for some time now to capture them for health reasons.
Goats have been wandering for some time between the alpine resorts of Sera, Palone and Val Maere, where the pasture is so steep and impracticable that it is practically impossible to capture these animals, therefore the Municipality of Ledro had to authorize their killing.
The reasons for the measure are repentant in the danger of contagion to other animals as the goats in question are suspected of being infected and carriers of some contagious diseases including agalactia, brucellosis.
According to current legislation, sheep and goats must be subjected to a blood test every year in order to check for the presence of this type of disease.
Although very wild the goats may have moved away from their original flock and wandering have reached inaccessible and sometimes inaccessible areas of the mountains of Ledro therefore it is now impossible to trace the owner.
Some Ledrense breeders bring their flocks to the mountains in the spring, leaving them unattended until autumn when they then return to take them back to the valley following a local tradition that has been handed down for more than a century.
During this period in which the animals are unattended it may happen that small flocks return alone to the valley, other times it may happen that the flock moves away to other pastures because frightened by wild animals.
Once they have gone too far, the leaders may no longer be able to return and over time they become increasingly wild, becoming unapproachable thanks also to the fact that they now live in a rocky environment.
Another reason that led to the authorization for the killing is linked precisely to the fact that the passage of goats in the rocky areas can cause the fall of stones in the areas below or even landslides and landslides thus constituting a danger to public safety.
The deputies for the targeted killing of the animals will be the men of the Forest Guard and the auxiliary hunters of Tiarno di Sotto who were the first to alert the Local Health Authority.
