Maltese hunters and civil society wrote a page in the history of their country on Saturday 11 April.
With 51% of the voters they rejected the referendum that wanted to abolish spring hunting in Malta. Without wishing to go too far into the merits of the referendum question: the spring hunt, which in any case we assure, is carried out according to the strictest scientific protocols and in compliance with all legal and conservation rules, as established by the special derogation of the European Union which until now 'allowed.
It was a fundamental victory of the principle, according to which you can win together with non-hunters by explaining your reasons. The referendum campaign was very hard but the Maltese hunters managed to make the men of the small state archipelago understand to the women that hunting is not the barbaric practice told by animal rights activists and pseudo ecologists. The anti-hunting lobby had most of the press on its side, but the hunters and their representatives chose a different strategy. They went among the people, to explain in rallies, at the bar or door to door when it was necessary their theses without the demagogic falsehoods of the opponents. As often happens when the information is correct and free, people have been able to choose. And he chose to say No to anti-hunts.
