This year it will be possible to hunt small sedentary fauna, such as hares and pheasants, even in the areas affected by the flood of January 2014. It is one of the novelties contained in the 2015-2016 Hunting Calendar approved in recent days by the Province. Last year the ban on hunting in the flooded areas it arose from the need to ensure a rapid re-equilibrium of the fauna in an area where the fauna had also been affected, needs that are now overcome. The calendar indicates periods, dates and rules on the performance of the hunting activity in 2015 which involves almost five thousand Modena shotguns, in addition to almost two thousand non-resident hunters. The calendar, which also lists the restrictions on game bags, huntable species and hunting methods, will be available on the Provincia.modena.it website in the Wildlife Policies section and obviously. The goal is to regulate the conduct of this activity by safeguarding by combining the protection of endangered species with an effective faunal balance to protect agriculture and the ecosystem in general.
La sedentary game hunting it will start on Sunday 20 September to close on 6 December and will be anticipated, from 1 September, by six days of pre-opening with limitations, preceded by the start of the dog training activity scheduled for 16 August. Meanwhile, the individual selection hunt for wild boar has already begun, while the selection hunt for deer is scheduled from October to March, with limitations, in order to contain an increasing species that is causing various damage in particular to the agroforestry heritage. The obligation to wear "high visibility" clothing is confirmed for hunters of small sedentary fauna and woodcock who frequent the areas where collective hunting takes place. boar which starts from 1 October. In practice, every hunter is required to wear at least one piece of clothing (trousers, shirts, vest and hat) in yellow or orange to be more visible, ensuring greater safety.
The 2015-2016 Hunting Calendar approved by the Province confirms the rules for hunting different species to be protected such as red partridge and gray partridge; for corvids, on the other hand, the rules for increasing the incisiveness of the levy to protect agriculture are confirmed. There are also rules on the fox hunting, in order to ensure greater safety, and on sedentary hunting during the month of January.
To protect the woodcock, temporary suspensions are foreseen in the winter months (communicated via the Province website) in case of severe frosts. It is also specified that by unloaded shotgun we mean the weapon that does not contain cartridges in the tank or even in the cartridge chamber, while for the safety distances (150 meters from the houses) buildings with collapsed roofs and not in renovation. Finally, the formal recognition of hunting with falcons has been confirmed (allowed by national and regional legislation) for which the provisions envisaged for hunting for sedentary fauna apply.
On the performance of the hunting activity a significant role is assigned to the three territorial hunting areas (ATC) of Modena: associative structures to which the regional law entrusts the wildlife management and the organization of the hunting activity in the territory of competence. In the Modena area, the three ATCs have an overall size of almost 160 hectares; each ATC is governed by an assembly of members and by a board of directors, the management body, made up of 20 members (representing agricultural, hunting and environmental associations), of which four are appointed by the Province who must have specific skills.
