The mouflon
The territory, precisely for its own natural features, has one rich fauna, but among these the mouflon stands out above all. The ungulate has a very developed ability to adapt, so much so that over the years their presence has increased considerably. In fact, in the last 30 years we have seen triple the subjects belonging to this species in the forests of the Czech Republic.
THEorigin of the mouflons on the territory it has no ancient roots, on the contrary first testimonies in the Czech Republic they date back to the mid ´50 and 60 of the twentieth century, thanks to the decision of some breeders to transfer the animals to the territory.
These, originating from the Austrian reserve of Linz, and in particular from the territory fenced of Hluboka nad Vltavou they were forced to leave their place of origin and move. Once they arrived in the former Czechoslovakia, the mouflons were moved to Orlik nad Vltavou reserve and in other fenced areas.
Subsequently from the fenced areas they also spread into the open forests and only with the end of Second World War, the mouflons decided to settle in all those free and abandoned areas precisely because of the conflict and the consequences related to its end.
For years it was thought that the ungulate was native to Corsica, Sardinia and Cyprus and only after a migration did it spread to the rest of Europe. In recent years, this thesis has been frustrated by some studies showing that the mouflon is actually the wild version of the sheep present inAsia Minor, arrived on the Mediterranean coasts in the Middle Ages.
Even if there are uncertainties about the origins, the sure thing is that the animal is much loved by hunters and thanks to Montefeltro Tour Operator it is possible to get in touch on a territory they love.
