For years, it was thought that the ungulate originated in Corsica, Sardinia, and Cyprus , and only spread to the rest of Europe through migration. In recent years, this theory has been disproved by studies demonstrating that the mouflon is actually the wild version of the sheep native to Asia Minor , arriving on the Mediterranean coasts in the Middle Ages.
