Hunting in derogation: Marche, the Region authorizes the hunting of starling and pigeon species, considered harmful to agriculture, only with the authorization of the Municipality.
The Marche Region authorizes the hunting notwithstanding the starling and the domestic pigeon to prevent serious damage to agriculture caused by these birds. The species will be huntable on the early opening days of the hunt provided for in the hunting calendar and in the period between the third Sunday of September and 29 November 2015. The decision was taken by the regional council, on the proposal of the councilor for hunting, Moreno Pieroni. The animals can be taken from the municipalities which, at least in the last three years, have been affected by damage to agricultural crops. Altogether there are 92 municipalities of the five provinces affected by the provision, as regards the starling, while the pigeon will be hunted in the territories of the provinces of Pesaro and Urbino, Ancona, Macerata and Fermo.
“The derogation is necessary to safeguard the quality agriculture of the Marche region - highlights the commissioner Pieroni - Many productions have reached a high quality level, certified by numerous designations of origin. Vineyards, orchards and olive groves suffer significant damage from predation by protected species, putting farms in difficulty due to the loss of product on the plants and market shares. The measures seek to limit the incidence of damage, while respecting the environmental balance ”.
Samples will be possible in the immediate vicinity of agricultural crops that have set up preventive measures against predation by birds. Hunters will have to request authorization from the Municipality of residence, using a specific form and will be able to hunt in the area of registered residence. The prescription does not apply to those who have chosen the form of hunting from fixed stalking outside the area of residence.
