Selection hunting: Grosseto, off to the control of ungulates to limit damage to agriculture.
Grosseto: The selection hunting it has a very important value in the Tuscany Region, since especially in recent years the populations of ungulates are causing numerous damages in the agricultural field. Selection hunting for deer and bovids is a type of hunting based on compliance with a pre-established withdrawal plan, divided by age and sex classes, and drawn up on the basis of censuses and population estimates.
The sampling plans are structured on the basis of technical-scientific studies which have the task of detecting the demographic trend of the ungulates present in the territory. In this way, the conservation of the density and structure of a wild population is guaranteed, with a sampling that affects only and exclusively the annual increase, without affecting the development potential of the species, dividing the culls into the different sex and age classes. .
The management plan for the exercise of selection hunting of the Province of Grosseto was born in compliance with a complex reference legislation and after hearing the opinion of the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). The good work of bureaucratic coordination and the full collaboration of the provincial offices with the ATCs, the selection hunters and all the bodies interested in the hunting wildlife management of our territory, has allowed the Province of Grosseto to be the first among the provinces of the Tuscany Region. to authorize the plans for the selection hunt and also to be the only Tuscan province to start the selection hunt from the first of June, the first useful date for the opening.
The other provinces foresee the following openings: Province of Pistoia: 13/06/2015; Province of Pisa, Arezzo and Livorno: 15/06/2015; Province of Siena and Lucca: awaiting the opinion of ISPRA; Province of Florence: 21/06/2015.
