Hunting: Ermete Realacci, president of the Environment Commission of the Chamber, will present a question to propose the identification of a commissioner for the control of wild boars in the parks.
Leave ideologies aside to adopt a scientific approach to the theme of hunting: this is the bet that hunting associations and environmental associations, first of all Legambiente, make together with the Unity party where the meeting moderated by the director of the Unit, Erasmo D'Angelis, took place today. The meeting was attended by Osvaldo Veneziano of Arci Caccia, the head of biodiversity of Legambiente Antonino Morabito, Gianluca Dall'Olio of the Italian Federation of Hunting, Giampiero Samurri, president of Ferderparchi and Ermete Realacci, president of the Environment Commission of the Chamber.
“It is an important group photo that is here today, - said Realacci - I respect those who are against the killing of animals, but the compass must be the management of ecological balances and the interest of the country. The hunting world must once again speak with one voice. If it came to a referendum against hunting, we know very well that the vast majority of public opinion would be against hunting. We also know that there is a part of the hunting world that is part of the country. I am not thinking of alliances only with Legambiente, but also with Slow Food, for example. There is an idea of Italy made up of territories, people, culture that is not part of the past, but is a backbone of Italy and also of the Expo. If you don't look at that Italy, you don't understand the strength of the country ".
For this Realacci announces: "Tomorrow I will submit a question to the Ministry of the Environment to identify a person who addresses the issue of the proliferation of boars parks, so as to find an overall solution to the problem ". “We have to leave ideologies in the past. Attention to the food supply chain is a sign of a way that is changing and our commitment must be to put different interests around the table for the general interest of the country. If, as hunting associations, we remain within the logic of corporations, we remain ballast. We need to think of tables that understand diversity, thinking about the general interest of the country ”.
“Due to the responsibility also of Arci Caccia, - underlined Veneziano, - the hunting world has made a mistake in its position, enhancing the playful aspect of the hunting activity. But the playful aspect is a completely individual aspect. At the center we must put the value of some meats at the service of the country. An underground resource of the country that must be put at the service of the economy of the country itself. An idea, for example, would be to combine wines with the meat of these animals which can perhaps become a heritage of those territories. This first appointment can be the beginning of a reconciliation: for this I thank unity and the Feast of Unity ".
Antonino Morabito, biodiversity manager of Legambiente, underlining how compared to a century ago “there is a doubling of green compared to our country, Italy brings a heritage of biodiversity to Europe. Today's challenge is the management and care of the common home, an ecological and social challenge even before an economic one. Having acknowledged that many consequences of the economic crisis come from the ecological crisis, - added Morabito - it is necessary to put the second challenge back at the center. Ecology is a science not an ideology and therefore it is of general interest trying to put together the diversities to face a common path. Talking about animals carries a strong load of empathy compared to the most defenseless beings. These components shift the confrontation and debate on emotionality, which must not be canceled, but by bringing science and ecology back to the center ”.
“Some species, such as predators, have grown with an ever higher index than the prey species. It is not enough to introduce more wild boars and roe deer to save the wolf. Scientifically this does not happen. We want to make ourselves available as members of this Italian family ”, concluded Morabito.
“Some of the problems we face, such as the management of alien species, the second cause of biodiversity loss in the world, require an approach that is detached from any ideology - warns the president of Federparchi Giampiero Samurri -“ We have a duty to intervene with rationality. Rationality is needed on issues such as wild boar management, a problem in all territories and especially in parks. The wild boar is a manageable species. With the union of these worlds it is possible to find a synthesis ”.
Gianluca Dall'olio of the Italian Federation of Hunting, wonders “what contribution the Ministry of Agriculture gives to this culture - and hopes“ a removal of the themes of hunting from the Ministry of Agriculture and an approach to that of the environment. The important challenge is to have a different unity of the hunting associations. Libera Caccia, for example, fired at zero on the agreement we sought with Legambiente, saying that we were committing suicide and proposing a far-right approach, from celodurismo which is wrong in my view ”.
