Hunting in Sardinia: yet another recourse to the TAR on the regional hunting calendar by environmentalists is coming, "the Region of Sardinia has little will to safeguard the fauna".
The environmentalists of WWF, Lac, Lipu and the Victims of Hunting Association, challenging again the 2012-2013 Regional Hunting Calendar of the Sardinia Region, are preparing to propose yet another appeal against the management document. The environmental associations have critically commented on the work of the Region in relation to the protection of the island's fauna, "Given the lack of willingness of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia to effectively protect the island's wildlife heritage, it will be the administrative judges and the community institutions to deal with it".
According to environmentalists, the critical points of the Hunting Calendar would concern the use of non-toxic ammunition for hunting ungulates, hunting times and the hunting period in Cesena and Tordo Bottaccio.
As regards the issue of non-toxic ammunition for hunting ungulates, the environmental associations believe that there is a situation of contrast with what is formulated by ISPRA, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research, in relation to toxicity for both humans and for necrophagous raptors.
With regard to the hunting time, fixed on a fortnightly and not daily basis, the environmentalists argue that this would violate the National Law 157/92 on hunting; finally, as regards the date set for the closure of the Cesena and al Song Thrush, according to the environmental associations it would be in contrast with the opinion of the ISPRA therefore they would ask for an advance to 10 January instead of 31 January.
Furthermore, environmentalists recall that the Hunting calendar of Sardinia it would still lack the Environmental Impact Assessment for the SCI and SPA areas required by national and EU legislation.
