Hunting in Sicily: new Natura 2000 sites open to hunting; between the areas where you can hunt the Peloritani mountains, the Curcuraci ridge, Antennamare, the marine area of the Strait of Messina and the Aeolian archipelago.
The general manager of the Regional Territory and Environment Department, with decree 442 of 10 August last, expressed a positive opinion on the environmental compatibility of hunting in other areas of the Natura 2000 network.
Therefore, without prejudice to the limitations and provisions provided for by the executive decree, the Department of Agricultural and Food Resources of the Sicilian region has authorized hunting activities in the sites: Peloritani mountains, Curcuraci ridge, Antennamare and marine area of the Strait of Messina; Torre Manfria, Biviere and Piana di Gela; Monte Pecoraro and Pizzo Cirina, Raffo Rosso, Cuccio and Vallone Sagana; mount San Giuliano, island of Ustica, mouth of the Pollina river and mount Tardara, mount Pizzuta, coast of Carpineto, Moarda, mount Zimmara (Gangi), cliffs of Taormina and mount Veneretta, basin of the Letojanni stream, tributaries of the Mela stream, mountain stretch of the Agro 'river basin, the San Cataldo stream, the island of Pantelleria and the surrounding marine area, the Aeolian archipelago (marine and terrestrial area).
The four decrees, which regulate the activity according to the prescriptions of the impact assessment, are available in the Official Journal of the Sicilian Region and on the institutional website of the Department of Agricultural and Food Resources. In the Pelagie and Egadi islands, however, hunting is open according to the requirements of the 2011-2012 calendar.
