La Metropolitan City of Venice has decided to suspend hunting in two valleys of the Venice lagoon following a blitz carried out by the Environmental Police six months ago. This is the Dragojesolo Valley and Grassabò Valley: in these areas in January 5 poachers were arrested and 150 birds seized, including about 40 wild geese, shelduck and lombard ducks, all protected species.
Individuals stopped by the agents were fined and denounced after ascertaining their criminal responsibilities, now the owners of the Valleys will also have to respect this blockade. The Dragojeolo Valley is owned by the Benetton family, while the Grassabò dei Mountains of Maserada. On 17 September, the opening day of the 2017-2018 hunting season, it will not be possible to go hunting in these places, to be precise until the following 15 November.
In the Venetian valleys we are talking about they spend very high figures for a hunting post, even up to 100 thousand euros, consequently the possible economic damage is already being calculated, given that the receipts for most of the season would be lacking. The appeal to Regional Administrative Court it is still possible.
Having financial resources, these textile industrialists will certainly resort to the TAR, I very much hope that if they do, they will lose it, because otherwise it would be a big moral slap in the face for honest hunters.
