As announced by the provincial section of Macerata of Italian Federation of Hunting, the wild boar is increasing in terms of numerical consistency, as the reproductive potential is very high. Each litter guarantees from 4 to 7 children, without forgetting the average annual growth rate of the population, between 90 and 180%. The ungulates therefore outweigh without any problems the harshest winters and they eat acorns and beeches which they find in great numbers.
The impact of wildlife on agriculture is inevitable, as well as on biodiversity. In addition, road accidents are another problem common to many Italian regions. Federcaccia Macerata recalled how the hunting activity concerning this species is allowed in the period 1 October-31 December or from 1st November to 31st January. A wild boar management is unthinkable without a correct collection by hunters who exploit hunted, turned or selection hunting.
A final memorandum from the provincial association has to do with health: all wild boars killed must be subjected to an accurate and adequate health check, mandatory to avoid any risk. The consumption of meat is in fact an aspect that should never be underestimated, given that ungulates can be affected by diseases quite serious like tuberculosis or trichinella.
