Caccia: To the thirty amendments decreed as admissible by EU law, others will have to be added that are still being examined by the committees of merit. The date of the presentation of the law to the chamber could be postponed.
Yesterday, on March 18, 2010, the European Policies Commission chaired by Mario Pescante met. The purpose of the meeting was to examine the amendments relating to the Community Law and decree which of them should be accepted and which should be rejected. The amendments, as we all know by now, mainly concern article 43 of the Community Law, that is the article relating to the extension of the hunting calendar.
Many amendments have been presented, so much so that the European Politics Commission has decided to send them to the Commission of Merit. After passing through these committees, however, they will obviously have to return to the European Policies Commission for the final decision.
This is a long process that could lead to the postponement of the date of the presentation of the law in the Chamber. The examination of the amendments should end on March 31 and the law should reach the House within the first days of April. However, some committees have already decreed that they do not have enough time to examine all the amendments and have already required a longer period of time.
The amendments received are of many different kinds from those who would like to be able to return to the old limits of hunting to those who would like Ispra to give its opinion on each intervention. Still others ask for a change in the hunting period or new restrictive periods for some species. Undoubtedly, the largest number of amendments would like the deletion of Article 43 in its entirety.
The European Policies Commission has decreed about thirty as admissible. To these thirty amendments, others will certainly have to be added later, among those that have been presented to the Committees of Merit and are still under examination.
