A necessary clarification
Following a specific request for clarification by the Tuscan Anuu Migratoristi in agreement with Federcaccia Uct Toscana, on theuse of molds and on their characteristics during the hunting exercise, we publish the response sent by the Agriculture and Rural Development Directorate office signed by the director. An important clarification that provides legal certainty on the use and possession of molds during hunting.
The taxidermy business
Below is the text of the response: “First of all, it is necessary to specify that taxidermy (or embalming) activities mean the application of a set of techniques for processing the remains of mammals or birds, which make it possible to preserve their external appearance. This activity is carried out by authorized persons as specified in Regional Law 3/95. The so-called "stuffing" differs from the taxidermy activity because the latter is intended as conservation of the animal's body as a whole, while the stuffing is aimed exclusively at the use of skin or feathers which are stuffed with materials (once wood or straw, today metal or synthetic material such as resins) for the artificial reproduction of the shapes of the specimen in question".
Birds and calls
The regional note continues: “Therefore, in response to your specific question, we would like to inform you that the specimen of bird used for hunting purposes (the so-called "mold") is not complete with all its parts (normally the legs are missing) and that therefore it has the typical characteristics of the stuffed animal, it can be used according to the provisions of the law for hunting activities and does not require authorization for detention or the affixing of the relevant tag/mark which is issued by the taxidermist for taxidermied animals. On the contrary, animals taxidermied as specified above must be held with an authorization certificate and mark issued by the taxidermist authorized by the competent bodies in accordance with the provisions of Art 6 of Regional Law 3/95".
