FdI's question
Appoint a regional commissioner for the fight against African swine fever in Emilia Romagna. This is asked in a question by Fratelli d'Italia signed by Giancarlo Tagliaferri (first signatory), Marta Evangelisti and Luca Cuoghi. “Last 15 February the regional councilor for agriculture Alessio Mammi met, in the council chamber of the Province of Piacenza, with mayors, agricultural trade associations, representatives of pig farms and territorial hunting areas, declaring that the evolution of Swine fever now represents a real national emergency, effectively placing the responsibility for the situation on the Italian government and the commissioner structure", explain the councilors.
Collection of wild boars
Again according to the signatories, "the action of the extraordinary national commissioner Vincenzo Caputo was immediately aimed at encouraging a greater quantity of wild boar harvesting so as to eliminate the spread of the disease: the results are extremely positive in Piedmont and Lombardy, Regions that have followed the lines dictated by the commissioner decrees, especially in Emilia-Romagna, a region in which nothing has yet been done to implement the commissioner lines - the withdrawal in 2023 drastically decreased, by two thirds compared to the average of the years 2019/2021, going from an average slaughter of 31.000 animals to that of less than 13.500 animals".
State of National Emergency
Fdi recalls how "contrary to what was supported by councilor Mammi, the proclamation of the State of National Emergency would not help the regular functioning of the pig districts, while the state of emergency at local level can support regional and local administrative activities with greater energy: instead , as experienced in the Piedmont region, the appointment of a Regional Commissioner as implementing body has given good results for the implementation of the national strategies indicated by the national Extraordinary Commissioner for African swine fever".
The Extraordinary Plan
Hence the inspection act to ask the council "what actions it intends to undertake in order to implement the "Extraordinary Plan" drawn up by the National Commissioner and whether it intends to proceed with the appointment of a Regional Commissioner who can coordinate his action with the National Commissioner ”. Fdi also wants to know whether the regional administration "intends to proceed with the declaration of a regional state of emergency with the aim of protecting the regional economic fabric linked to the pig and agri-food supply chain which in Emilia-Romagna represents a true excellence and which actions it intends to undertake in order to provide answers to the pig farms and the cured meats supply chain in our Region" (source: Emilia Romagna Region).
