The queen of the forest
Last Saturday 4 November, an awaited and welcome event took place, an evening dedicated to woodcock where the queen of the woods was the protagonist of a conference - The woodcock, monitoring of the species and evolutions: experts at the conference - organized at the hunting lodge of the "Santa Croce" wildlife hunting company in Pastena (Frosinone). Speaker of the evening was Alessandro Tedeschi (President of the Friends of Scolopax Association and technical consultant of the FIdC Studies and Research Office) who proposed and illustrated with abundance and in-depth studies and scientific research aimed at the woodcock (Scolopax rusticola).
High level of scientificity
The current themes and projects greatly involved the enthusiasts who attended. The management problems together with the need to know and monitor the state of health of the species, have represented the prerequisite for activating the "Scolopax Project" for over twenty years, a highly scientific container where 360° studies are concentrated and research aimed at meeting the needs of our time aimed at this species. Of undoubted interest is the study of the collection of wings from hunting, which stimulates and encourages collaboration with the world of hunters. The presentation of the observations resulting from the monitoring of migrations carried out thanks to the use of satellite radiotelemetry has produced exciting interest and has allowed us to peer into the mysteries of migration and the particular movements and behaviors of individuals.
Molecular research
As part of the conference, the state of molecular research aimed at the species was also presented, with particular attention to the study of DNA and genetic particularities of the woodcock. Present at the conference were the Mayor of Pastena Honorable Angelo Dovidio, the President of the ATC LT2 Franco D'Urso, the President of the Monti Ausoni and Lago di Fondi Park Authority Dr. Lucio De Filippis, Dr. Giuseppe Battista organizer of multiple events related to hunting in Ciociaria, under the supervision of the President of the ATC Fr2 dr. Alessandro Filippi. Thanks are due to the speaker Alessandro Tedeschi and to the effective organization put in place by the President of the AFV “Santa Croce” Vincenzo Pascale, and to the staunch enthusiast Leonardo Turchetta (source: Federcaccia).
