Training and information
Federcaccia Toscana – UCT, Provincial Section of Pistoia and Municipal Section of Larciano, with the patronage of the Municipalities of Larciano, Fucecchio, Ponte Buggianese, Monsummano and Montecatini Terme, organizes the free training and information course “Knowing the Marsh”. The event will be held at the Baronessa Irene Alfano Montecuccoli Visitor Center, located in Castelmartini (PT), and will benefit from the collaboration of ATC 11 Pistoia, ATC 5 Firenze Sud, Fondazione UNA, Unicoop Valdinievole, ACMA, ARGA and Associazione Il Padule. The course, which will take place between February 25 and March 18, 2025, includes a series of meetings with industry experts to delve into issues related to the reality of the Padule di Fucecchio, its ecosystem and wildlife management.

The President of the Federcaccia UCT Provincial of Pistoia – Franco Biagini – expressed great satisfaction for this initiative, underlining: “The work of the Association’s volunteers in managing the Visitor Center is fundamental and today it is enriched by an important training activity promoted by hunters, which further enhances the Padule di Fucecchio”.
The program in detail
This is the program:
Tuesday 25 February, 21:00 pm: Dr. Maurizio Ventavoli, President of the Consortium 4 Basso Valdarno, will illustrate the realities and prospects of the Padule di Fucecchio.
Saturday 1 March, 14:30 pm: Meeting with Dr. Dimitri Giunchi (University of Pisa) on the ANASAT project for monitoring aquatic birds using satellite telemetry. This will be followed by speeches by Emiliano Arcamone (Centro Ornitologico Toscano) on the IWC censuses and by Dr. Marco Fasoli (ACMA) on studies on aquatic bird populations. Dr. Federico Merli from the Tuscany Region will conclude, illustrating the importance of the hunting license for fauna management.
Friday 7 March, 21:00 pm: Prof. Paolo Santini will present the first part of the history of the Padule di Fucecchio.
Tuesday 11 March, 21:00 pm: Second part of the history of the Padule with Prof. Paolo Santini and the speech by Alessio Spinelli on the relationship between the history and current events of the Padule.
Friday 14 March, 21:00 pm: Dr. Leonardo Gori will talk about the typical marsh vegetation and environmental management of the Padule di Fucecchio.
Saturday 15 March, 14:00 pm: Dr. Marco Ferretti will discuss wildlife planning, while Dr. Francesca Ciuti will illustrate the wildlife heritage of the area.
Tuesday 18 March, 21:00 pm: Dr. Luigi Malfatti will conclude the course with a lesson dedicated to the birds of the Padule di Fucecchio.
At the end of the course a certificate of participation will be issued.
