Questionnaire on sightings
A course to teach how to recognize traces of the presence of the wolf on the territory and train among the Federcacciatrici and Federcacciatori some real "sentinels" able to accurately fill out a questionnaire on sightings. The set of data collected will serve to give a reliable picture of the presence of this carnivore for now in Liguria, where the initiative was born by the National Coordination of female hunters Federcaccia and FIdC Liguria, later by the Regions that want to accept it. The course, which will start on Friday 18 April, has obtained the recognition of ISPRA (which will then be the beneficiary of data) and is divided into three online theoretical lessons lasting two hours each.
Lessons
Two will be held by Dr. Elena Bassi and one by Dr. Paola Aragno of ISPRA. There will also be, again with Dr. Bassi, a field trip lasting about three hours, in search of wolf tracks. The first lesson (April 18 at 20.30:28 pm, E. Bassi) will focus on Biology and ecology of the wolf; the second (April 20.30 at 6:20.30 pm, E. Bassi) on Wolf monitoring techniques; the third (May 2020 at 21:XNUMX pm, P. Aragno) on Setting up national monitoring, XNUMX-XNUMX surveys and management of wolves that frequent the human environment.
Report on predation
Field trips on the afternoons of May 4 and 18, two trips to divide up the already numerous participants in the course. Participation is free and participants will be given a certificate. In addition to the one on sightings, two other questionnaires are being prepared: one on pets, based on the model already proposed by the Coordination when preparing the Report on dog predation by wolves, but specific to the Ligurian territory, and one on the predation of livestock, unfortunately increasingly frequent. The recognition by ISPRA is particularly important because it certifies the work already done by the Coordination of hunters and FIdC and creates the basis for constructive collaboration for wolf management and more.
