The Carabinieri of the Company of Rende, in the province of Cosenza, have carried out a series of checks in the territory of their competence. One of the cases examined concerned a 49-year-old woman. In the lady's house, the military found a shotgun, guarded in the worst way, since it had been placed behind a door, without any caution.
It is not difficult to imagine how the weapon was within everyone's reach, even children, with all the risks involved. The 49-year-old justified herself by explaining that she had inherited the rifle from her father who had been dead for some time, without knowing that she had to regularize possession. In such situations there is no ignorance that holds and the woman was denounced on the loose on charges of omitted custody.
The weapon was instead impounded. The case has some similarities with what happened last October in the province of Brindisi. Three months ago the Carabinieri in fact discovered in the home of a 75 year old, retired as a widow, two rifles owned by husband deceased 22 years earlier. Even these weapons had not been regularized as far as the possession, even triggering the handcuffs against the old woman.
I wonder and say, is it possible that there was no one who, knowing a bit of the law and the situation, could lend a hand to regularize the matter, thus avoiding complaints to these two women ???
