Mouflon eradication
The story of Giglio began a few months ago when the Tuscan Archipelago Park Authority launched on the island, with the consent of the Tuscany Region and the positive opinion of Ispra, the program of mouflon eradication, alien species, as required in the measures of the European Life projects.
The consequences for biodiversity
As now usually happens for every management intervention undertaken by any Institution, the usual, well-organized machine of animal rights fundamentalism immediately took off, which without any attention to the negative consequences on the real protection of biodiversity first gave rise to a smear campaign against of the Park and subsequently with the presence for over a month of a group of activists, who are constantly presiding over the whole territory of the Island of Giglio by staging incessant actions of disturbance and provocation aimed at preventing the normal performance of the hunting activity, extended by the sampling of mouflons to any form of hunting practiced according to current laws and regulations.
A blatant unconstitutionality
A surreal and unacceptable situation, in which groups of frantic people violate the law and rights in the name of a personal animal rights vision, which requires firm and decisive intervention by the authorities. We now hope that action will be taken promptly by putting an end to this condition of blatant unconstitutionality which has already been tolerated for far too long and which prevents the exercise of an activity permitted and regulated by state laws to citizens who have reason to see their rights protected (source : FIDC).
