An important step
"The agreement for the feasibility study for the eradication of wild boars and moufflons in the territory of theElba island. It is a first step to arrive, hopefully sooner, at an intervention plan for the protection and defense of agricultural production, biodiversity, landscape and tourism”: this is how Coldiretti Livorno comments on the approval by the Tuscan Archipelago Park of the agreement between the institution and the Municipality of Marciano to start the study.
The position of Coldiretti
Coldiretti's position, with regard to the ungulate emergency, has always been clear by supporting the park institution and the municipalities in the request to the Tuscany Region for revocation of a suitable area throughout the territory of the Island of Elba and by promoting and participating in meetings and moments of confrontation: “wild boars and mouflons devastate agricultural production and represent a threat to the health, safety and hydrogeological integrity of the Elba hills.
A presence to reduce
They are among the culprits of land abandonment and discourage entrepreneurial activity. – explains Simone Ferri Graziani, President of Coldiretti Livorno – The presence of these animals, in a territory like Elba, is out of control. The trend, without adequate measures, is irreversible. Must hurry".
