The Viper Thermal Imaging Device from Nitehog (nitehog.eu) is the smallest, lightest and most compact thermal imaging device in its class.
Iwa OutdoorClassics defines itself as “an unmissable event for professionals in the hunting, sport shooting and outdoor sectors”, and it certainly is, also because it is now the only trade fair in the sector, on this side of the Atlantic, aimed at professionals. All the other shows are aimed at the public or, in any case, also at the public: in order of appearance Jagd und Hund in Dortmund, EOS European outdoor show in Verona and Die Hohe Jagd & Fischerei in Salzburg.
The question to ask is, if anything, whether a trade fair aimed only at professionals, such as IWA, is still relevant. Judging by many indicators, the answer should be no. However, IWA remains very important, although it lacks some brands that have decided otherwise, such as the Beretta group, the Blaser group and, just to add a couple of important names, Leica and Swarovski optik.
The numbers don't lie
It is true that the offer is complete and international with 1.084 exhibitors from 52 countries. But which countries? From Germany 178 exhibitors, United States 147, Italy 105, Czech Republic 53, Spain 31, United Kingdom 34. It was a completely different story just ten years ago with 1.383 exhibitors: there were 148 Italians, 209 Americans and 324 Germans. Quite a difference, eh? The United Kingdom was at 66, Spain at 43. The Czech Republic alone was less numerous, with 50 exhibitors. There would be a lot to say about the Czech Republic and the expansion of the Czechoslovak Group (CSG) in the sector, and its significant acquisitions in Italy and the United States, but it is also true that the war events had a strong impact on the sector, including that of sport shooting and hunting. So who made the “leap”? China had 65 exhibitors in 2015 and Turkey 64, in 2025 both jumped to 104. Some Europeans and some Americans have pulled back and others have advanced and from other "emerging" countries. Among the Italian exhibitors, then, many are the subcontractors of components or the producers of machinery for weapons and ammunition.
Many Americans too, although decreasing. Here is a classic 199 Auto Ordnance dedicated to President Trump.
The German organization is always top-notch, for goodness sake, and the marketing of the Nuremberg fair is very busy and looks to the future of the business of the sector, but it is true that among the stands of the 9 pavilions there are many empty spaces.
Few news
The new products have already been presented at previous fairs and, especially this year, there are not many of them. You have to go and look for them and also, maybe settle… Of course, a lot of optics and electronics from China: latest-generation thermal and night vision goggles, with high-resolution sensors and various functions (but few, real differences). A lot of Soft air and a lot of compressed air. And the sporting knives, for which the German fair is always an unmissable event.
From Italy 105 exhibitors, a decrease compared to previous yearsThe “IWA Knife Awards” were assigned in numerous categories by a jury of experts among 79 products presented by exhibitors from 13 countries. Successes also for the Italians Lion Steel and Maserin.
Wide variety of rifles from different manufacturers, with a focus on precision, lightness and innovation in materials. Many smoothbore shotguns at low prices and increasing quality from Turkey. Updates and pistols for sport shooting and personal defense, with a focus on lightness, ergonomics and magazine capacity, but also on the "equipment".
Turkish manufacturers are increasingly showing competitive spirit in all kinds of weapons.
New ammunition formulations to improve accuracy, velocity and terminal effectiveness, but above all ecological ammunition with non-toxic materials to reduce environmental impact. Lots of technical equipment for hunting and outdoor, with breathable, waterproof and resistant fabrics. Increasingly ergonomic designs also for footwear. Electronics for noise-cancelling headphones, dog collars and communication systems.
