At the Ridanna hunters' biathlon, when the approximately 200 participants shoot, they don't have hares, deer or black grouse in their sights. They must hit and shoot down the traditional targets of the biathlon - fighting with the increase in heart rate and breathlessness caused by running. For years the event has been a fixed appointment for hunters from the entire Alpine region: the participants come from South Tyrol, the rest of the Italian Alps, Austria, Germany and Switzerland; even a Romanian hunter does not hesitate every year in the face of the long road that leads him to Ridanna. Traditional hunters' biathlon involves completing three laps of 1,5km each, interspersed with two sets at the shooting range. First fired lying down, then standing: five rounds with single-magazine 22-gauge shotguns on the large biathlon target.
As with any biathlon, accuracy, good condition and a fast pair of skis are important. Not for nothing until shortly before the start we exchange valuable advice and discuss technical issues. But in Ridanna, no one gets angry if they don't win, not even if they finish last. In fact, hunters' biathlon has always been above all one thing: a great party, an opportunity to be together on the snow.
The 20th anniversary edition
For the 20th anniversary, the organizers of the Ridanna hunting reserve have created an additional special race: you compete with snowshoes on a circuit of about 500 meters to be covered three times, interspersed with two series of shots.
Great prizes
As every year, at the 20th hunters' biathlon valuable prizes will be raffled off among all participants, including killing and an optical instrument Leica, historical main sponsor of the event and manufacturer of optics that make up every ball hunter's dream. The most important prize will be the best riflescope in the world for long-range hunting shooting, winner of several national and international shooting competitions in 2018, the Leica LRS 6.5-26 × 56. Participation is open to all hunters and hunters of all ages - and fitness! - and will take place as always at the Ridanna - Racines Biathlon Center in the province of Bolzano, on January 26, 2019.
