For the review of the Key concepts, essentially the hunting periods of the migratory avifauna based on the beginning of the pre-nuptial migration, the Minister of Agriculture Gian Marco Centinaio claims its own competence. With a signed letter, MIPAAFT addressed the Permanent Italian Representation in Brussels, for subsequent forwarding to the European Commission, to express its position on the ongoing updating procedure of the Key Concepts for 5 huntable species (song thrush, redwing, cesena, woodcock and teal).
In the letter, the minister, with a sense of responsibility and expressing his institutional prerogatives, distanced himself from the ways in which the comparison on KC was conducted by the Ministry of the Environment and from the restrictive approach expressed by Ispra and by the same Ministry, in contrast with the works highlighted by the technicians of the hunting associations and the Regions. MIPAAFT has also clearly and firmly claimed its competence on huntable species, requesting a revision of the data in the light of the aforementioned works, of which the Ministry of the Environment he refused to take this into account, and asked to sit with his own representative on the Nadeg advisory commission, which must evaluate the updating of the KCs.
Federcaccia, in addition to expressing obvious satisfaction with the positions expressed by the Ministry of Agriculture and hoping that this will resume after years of absence its leading role in hunting matters, thanked Minister Centinaio for the attention shown to the question and for calling for an objective evaluation of the related scientific literature. The Federation also thanks all those who contributed to this important result, in particular the Senators Francesco Bruzzone and Stefano Borghesi from Brescia and the Undersecretary for the Environment Vannia Gava. We therefore continue our work in support of a sustainable and modern hunting activity, which can keep traditional hunts within it in a guise in line with the European directives and the dictates of science without being mortified by unjustified restrictions dictated by ideological approaches.
