The research institutes involved
On 24 June the conference will be held to present the final results of the work conducted with six research institutes for the development of the long-term regional biodiversity monitoring plan through the COMBI Project (Knowing and Monitoring Biodiversity in Emilia Romagna) and to verify the health of regional biodiversity. The research institutes involved are: Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA), University of Bologna, University of Insubria, University of Ferrara, University of Parma, as well as the Civic Museum of Natural History of Ferrara.
Protection of biodiversity
The event is aimed at the scientific community, technicians of regional administrations and protected areas and university students, as well as the world of volunteering in the naturalistic field. After the institutional greetings, the introductory speeches will be from the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, ISPRA with Piero Genovesi and the University of Bologna with prof. Alessandro Chiarucci, who will illustrate the responsibility for protecting biodiversity in our country, one of the richest in species and habitats in Europe and the importance of finding methods to monitor biodiversity over time that are reliable and at the same time practicable in terms of time and expenditure for the public body.
Monitoring strategy
Following the introductory interventions, the regional monitoring plan for species of conservation interest will be presented, both deriving from the habitat and birds directives and of regional interest. The sample survey monitoring strategy and data flow will be explored in depth. This will be followed by the interventions of the various research groups relating to the different taxa (Flora, Mammals, Birds, Amphibians, Reptiles, Fish, Invertebrates) to update knowledge and monitoring methods.
