GENERAL APPEARANCE: it is also defined as a hard-haired griffon and is a stocky, vigorous, rustic dog. The skull is not too broad; long and square muzzle. The yellow or brown eyes, covered, but not hidden, by bushy eyebrows, and the well developed mustaches give it a characteristic expression that expresses firmness and confidence.
HEAD: large, long; coarse hair, thick but not too long; big mustaches and eyebrows.
CRANIAL REGION
Skull: Not too broad.
Stop: not too pronounced.
FACIAL REGION
Nose: always brown.
Nasal bridge: slightly convex.
Muzzle: long and square.
Eyes: yellow and brown, large, covered but not hidden by bushy eyebrows, very intelligent expression.
Ears: of medium size, not folded, applied flat against the cheeks. Set not too low; covered with hair of different lengths
NECK: rather long, devoid of baleen
BODY
Chest: deep, not too broad. Slightly rounded ribs. TAIL: Carried horizontally and with the tip slightly raised, covered with thick hair but without a plume. Generally shortened by a third or a quarter

FOREQUARTERS
Straight, vigorous, well perpendicular from the shoulder, with thick hair.
Shoulder: Rather long, very sloping.
BACK LIMBS
Thick fur.
Upper thigh: Long and very muscular.
Hock: good angles, never straight.
FEET : round, solid, very compact and close toes.
COAT
Hair: hard and coarse, reminiscent of boar's bristles to the touch; never curled or woolly. Under the long, hard top coat, a fine, dense down abounds.
Color: preferably steel gray, with brown spots. Uniformly brown. Frequently reddish brown or roan. White and brown and white and orange coats are also allowed.
