THEPermanent Light Weapons Observatory (OPAL) has just released the data relating to arms and ammunition exports locally subdivided in our country. The report showed that the first Italian province in this sense is Brescia, Followed by La Spezia and Rome (both very distant from the leading province). The Ligurian province is the one that has attracted the most attention. In 2016, in fact, La Spezia companies were able to achieve a business of 210 million, far from the Brescia primacy (326 million), but still a very respectable figure.
THEOPAL examined the official and definitive data provided by Istat and Eurostat on the exports of arms and ammunition, military and civilian carried out by Italy in 2016. The total value of our country amounts to 1,2 billion euros, but in La Spezia there has been a contraction in recent months. In 2014, in fact, the companies of the Ligurian province had guaranteed more than 255 million euros, a total which then dropped to 247 million in the 2015.
The 210 million last year (19% of total exports), therefore, certified a loss of 45 million in 24 months, about 20% less to be precise. Sales abroad have seen above all as a protagonist Oto Melara, a subsidiary of Finmeccanica and which was absorbed by Leonardo two years ago.
