Habitat Directive
From the European Parliament green light to requests for modification of the protection status of large carnivores: with the favorable vote of more than 300 deputies, the Parliament now asks the EC to implement article 19 of the Habitats Directive by activating a procedure for updating and modifying the annexes of the directive itself, according to the evolution of the populations of large carnivores modifying the protection regime.
An important result
The European Parliament has also stressed to the Commission that moving a species from one annex to another – from strictly protected to protected – does not change the obligation of member states to ensure its protection. The Northern League MEP Matteo Gazzini speaks of an important result, combined with common sense and logic but not at all obvious, who together with his party colleagues supported the content of the amendments of his South Tyrolean colleague Herbert Dorfmann.
The satisfaction of the FACE
"With this small but important step, finally many traditional European farmers can begin to glimpse the light from the bottom of the tunnel into which they had fallen" says Massimo Casanova from Puglia. FACE was also satisfied, which has always supported the need to act in this direction, supporting and thanking the deputies for the work done in recent months (Source ON. CASANOVA SECRETARY).
