There are several training and qualification courses that Territorial Areas of Hunting they are promoting in the last few days. After ATC Latina 2, also that of Alexandria has decided to organize lessons to enable the selection hunting for ungulates, specifically roe deer, fallow deer and mouflons. This is a course designed for hunters who are in possession of the hunting qualification required by law and who intend to obtain this certificate for the three species. Applications for admission can be submitted using a specific form provided by the Piedmontese Area by and no later than next February 18th.
It has already been made clear that the lessons will start only after reaching the minimum number of participants, that is 15. The maximum number allowed, however, is 50. Several modules have been prepared, so it is worth investigating the topics that will be covered. First of all, we will start with a national and regional regulatory framework for what concerns the wildlife-hunting management of ungulates, without forgetting environmental improvement interventions, catches and reintroductions.
There will be no lack of concepts of applied ecology, in addition to principles and general methods for estimating the populations of the three species from a quantitative point of view. The censuses and estimates on abundance, the direct and indirect methods of sampling and the methods of application to concrete cases will have just as much space in the course. The modules then concern the single ungulates. For roe deer, fallow deer and mouflons, it will therefore be possible to discover the recognition of classes and ages in nature, but also the ecology and biology of the species.
The lesson dedicated to the withdrawal technique, consequently, the topics related to weapons, ammunition, safety regulations, ballistics, reaction to shooting, evaluation of the effects of shooting and recovery of wounded items through the track dog will be studied in depth. The Alessandria Territorial Hunting Area has also thought about a practical riding exercise and shooting with rifled weapons equipped with sight optics: hunters will be tested in the shooting test on a fixed target at one hundred meters, but there will also be a practical exercise on how to deal with the culled animals.
Finally, the lessons relating to the treatment of remains, the sanitary rules and the methods of drafting the slaughter cards should be remembered; the written exam (two multiple choice quiz sessions) is scheduled for 29 March, while the oral one was set at 5th April and will focus on the recognition of the sex of the ungulates and of the age classes.
