For about a week theTerritorial hunting area of Sulmona (province of L'Aquila) has decided to completely close thehunting activity in the municipality of Pettorano on Gizio. It is a locality located outside the “Monte Genzanza” Regional Nature Reserve and which is part of the territory of the Abruzzo ATC itself. The area is the one chosen by theMarsican bear for wintering and feeding, his and his puppies.
As he explained Mark Del Castello, number one in the Sulmona area: “This is a very delicate moment of the season for the conservation of the species. I accepted the invitation of the director of the Nature Reserve and I decided to suspend the hunting activity in that portion of the territory falling within the Municipality of Pettorano and the ATC of Sulmona, both for wild boar and for other huntable species. The goal is to ensure the minimum disturbance toPeppina bear and its three cubs, as a species protected by national and international standards and a symbol and pride of our native fauna.
It is a decision of responsibility adopted with conviction in the context of a broader path of collaboration that has been launched a few years ago with all the most important management bodies of Protected areas of our region ". The provision will remain in force until 31 January of the 2019.
