La Anti Vivisection League (LAV) decided to turn to the Minister of the Environment, Gian Luca Galletti, to address the issue of wolf hunting in Italy. As can be read in the press release of the association, the holder of the dicastery in Via Cristoforo Colombo risks being remembered for having reopened this hunting levy after almost 50 years, as well as for having allowed thekilling of stray dogs despite the prohibition foreseen by the Italian legal system for a quarter of a century.
The League also presented the statement for the non-lethal management of the wolf, document signed by international experts who deal with the management and conservation of the animal. The conference was also used for the presentation of a dossier. The title is "Towards a plan for the conservation and management of the wolf in Italy": this is a revision from a technical and scientific point of view of the draft plan of the Ministry of the Environment, given that the current proposal has been defined "a sensational leap back in time for our country" and "an ethical shame ".
According to the LAV, the lack of approval has so far been guaranteed by the criticisms and protests of associations and citizens, even if it is considered a temporary victory that does not shelter the wolves from the “target of the crossfire of hunters and other subjects that can be qualified for killing”.
