No more ammunition depot in the heart of the Regional park of Valle del Curone and Montevecchia a Lomagna. But at the same time no more reclamation and recovery of the former disused industrial area. The announcement, surprisingly, came at the beginning of the last session of City Council of the other night. This was revealed by the new mayor Cristina Citterio, who explained that she had been contacted a few hours by the top management of Immobiliare Sernovella to anticipate that the managers of the Flakes Ammunition have terminated the existing contract for the redevelopment of the abandoned sector and that therefore the projects and the specific agreement already approved in fact are to be considered wastepaper and that nothing more will be done there at the moment.
«For reasons of strategic business choices by Immobiliare Sernovella it was explained to us that by Fiocchi ammunition they no longer intend to follow up on the investment to build a pole in the area of the former Rdb ”, explained the mayor. The mayor had also inherited the issue from his predecessor, Stefano Fumagalli, with whom he nevertheless shared the decision, despite the opposition of environmentalists, pacifists and exponents of the local and provincial Democratic Party, according to which such an activity would not be compatible in a protected natural oasis. What are the new strategic corporate choices of the Lecco multinational of bullets at the moment it is not known.
In the original plans and intentions, it should have been built in an area of about 65 thousand square meters a depot for storing ammunition, but also attached offices and a residential unit for the caretakers and guardians, given the sensitivity of the site, in place of the crumbling warehouses covered with asbestos among other things. Compared to the current situation, urbanized and built surfaces and volumes would have been reduced, the plan also included environmental compensation and charges, as well as possible employment benefits. «I hope that despite this opportunity having disappeared, there will still be an opportunity to redevelop e enhance that area, which remains our goal ”, concluded the mayor (Il Giorno).
