Available in gun shops around April Leica Calonox 2 View, the pinnacle of innovation in thermal imaging for wildlife observation. The version Sight of the Calonox 2 It is certainly the most loved by hunters, because it has almost identical characteristics, but it can be mounted on the riflescope in clip-on mode, using an interface available on the market such as that of Rusan. For both models there are Lrf versions, that is, also equipped with an integrated laser rangefinder. They cost from 4.800 euros for the versions without rangefinder, to 5.800 euros. This new generation of devices offers superior optical performance with a focal length of 42 mm, greater ease of use and a series of advanced features. It is designed and built in Europe.
The heart of the Leica Calonox 2 Sight is its high quality thermal sensor 640 x 480 pixels (12 µm), from French Lynred, Netd <40 mK, capable of capturing sharp and detailed images even in low light or total darkness. Thanks to Leica image optimization (Lio) software technology, the contrast and resolution of the images are optimized for precise identification of game at significant distances. The Maximum recognition distance is 2.210 m, Leica itself declares that recognition is possible at 770 and identification at 390 meters. The high-resolution Oled display (1280×960 pixels) returns a comfortable and detailed vision thermal images. There are 4 different color modes and three preset usage modes for typical scenarios (summer, winter, rain).

Without shutter
Conventional thermal imaging cameras periodically recalibrate with an audible “click” and a frozen frame. Leica Calonox 2 thermal imaging cameras are designed to be shutter-free: Leica software allows for silent and instant recalibration, without freezing the image. The field of view is 18×13.5 m@100 meters. There is no dioptric compensation because the Sight It is designed to be mounted on the rifle without the need for specific calibration and is interchangeable on different weapons.

There is no magnification either, however there is a temporary magnification function that is used to facilitate observation that allows you to activate a 2x digital zoom for just 30 seconds. The device is lightweight, about 590 grams with batteries, the case is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic and external silicone finish, the design is compact and ergonomic. It is resistant to dust and water (IP67).

Wings on the sides
The dimensions of 139x90x61 mm and the reduced weight make it easy to carry. The two wings on the sides, compared to the cylindrical central body, are particular, intended to contain the electronics, wider on the Lrf version which in width measures 109 mm. In the right wing the laser rangefinder, which has a range of up to 1.200 m, on the left the batteries. The Sight device is powered by 2 2420 mA/h batteries, rechargeable and non-removable, with an autonomy of 6h45' (5h for the Lrf version). The cable connection is ensured by the Usb-C socket.

The controls are logically arranged and the user interface is clear and easy to understand: like all products Leica, the Calonox 2 Sight is intuitive to use, even under difficult conditions of use. A large, robust metal control ring turns the device on and makes it easy to switch between day and night modes. A magnetic latching switch keeps the device on during switching, thus saving time. The Leica Calonox 2 Sight It is equipped with a series of advanced features, in addition to those described, which make it a versatile and complete tool. For example, the energy saving mode, but above all the image and video recording function and Wi-Fi (2,4 GHz) and Bluetooth connectivity for data transfer. The internal memory is 32 GB.
But also…
Forest Italy, a Leica distributor, also presented the entire range of Geovid binorangemeters at EOS, now available in 20 versions, starting from the entry-level model, which measures only the distance up to 1.500 meters and costs 1.500 euros. Fortis Glossy is the range of prestigious riflescopes for “fine” rifles with aesthetically high-level handcrafted finishes, obviously glossy and with engraved writing, but with all the technical features of the modern Fortis range by Leica.

The same Francesco Corrà, administrator of Forest Italy, says he is enthusiastic about one of the many items of clothing from the Danish brand Härkila clothing: clim8 Insulated Jacket (470 euros), a down jacket with goose down padding, which uses sensors and a smartphone app to monitor body temperature and adjust the heat provided by the jacket accordingly. Just press the specific logo directly on the jacket.
