The Collective Prevention and Public Health Service of Emilia Romagna region has established the exclusive use of lead-free ammunition to kill animals whose meat is intended for consumption by people other than the hunter. Taking a cue from what is established by the executive determination 1586 of 2007 (“Technical indications for the marketing of slaughtered game meat”), very important decisions have been taken.
First of all, the affected meats are those coming from hunting e intended for direct sale of a whole head per hunter (500 head of small game per year) to the final consumer and to retail laboratories. By the way, we must not forget the obligation to document the origin of the animal and its negativity to trichinosis.
Once recognized as healthy, these meats must also be subjected to health marking after being sent to a recognized machining center. The Wildlife-Hunting and Fishing Activities Service of the Region will now undertake to disseminate this publication as much as possible, so that it is known by all the actors involved.
