With reference to the program "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" broadcast on RAI 3 on the evening of 11 November 2018, ENCI specifies that, as regards the alleged genealogical certificates produced by associations not entitled topedigree issuance, the organization currently collaborates with investigators and in defense of Italian dog breeders on various, important investigations. ENCI is naturally obliged to strictly confidentiality and cannot provide any information. Regarding the zootechnical checks ratified by ENCI it is necessary to reiterate, firmly rejecting the circus image that has been attributed to it, that these are important moments of confrontation that engage breeders and enthusiasts who with a thousand sacrifices they bring their beloved dogs to the attention of expert qualified judges.
It is through these checks that the dogs that represent excellence in terms of typicality and function are identified, with interesting developments also in the field of socially useful activities. In this regard, I can only thank all the dog lovers, from the expert judges to those who collaborate in dog groups and in specialized associations, for their dedication and commitment. As for the Selected Reproduction, it is specified that the criteria for each breed are identified and constantly updated, in agreement with the specialized associations of reference, by Central Technical Commission which is paying the greatest attention to reducing the incidence of hereditary diseases bearing in mind the pressing need not to impoverish the genetic variability of individual breeds. The Central Technical Commission has within it all the necessary skills to favor the correct selection of the purebred dog, which we talk about too often without having precise knowledge.
The Commission, which meets profitably and frequently, is in fact made up of a representative of the zootechnical services and an official of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Policies, a representative of the veterinary services of the Ministry of Health, three technicians qualified experts in cynology university professors or researchers, four experienced breeders and the coordinator of the Advisory Committee of Experts. We regret to note that ENCI was not directly contacted by the authors of the program, as expected, and could not contribute to deepen themes that are constantly at the center of our attention. ENCI reiterates its concrete support for breeders that contribute to the improvement and spread of dog breeds, having as a founding principle the well-being and health of our dogs.
