La ringing station on the island of Ponza announced the progress of the last day of activity in the largest of the Pontine Islands. Tomorrow, Friday 26 May 2017, will in fact be dedicated to disassembly of the station itself after today's morning in which the networks remained open. This means that the 2017 season has also come to an end and it is possible to draw up a budget.
In the last few days the weather conditions have been very good, with sunny and warm weather, as well as a light wind that has often blown in the afternoon hours. Compared to last week the catches have increased in number: just yesterday there was an important weekly peak in ringing activity, with approx 350 captured birds.
This morning, instead, two orioles were caught, to be precise on the second round of the nets: one of them was a handsome adult male, as can be seen in the image. The season therefore ends in style with interesting and positive numbers.
