In four mountain passes known to be bird migration routes, a ban on hunting has been approved, according to the measure recently approved by the Agriculture Commission of Lombardy. This provision, which will be submitted to the final vote by the Regional Council next week, involves the Capovalle pass in the province of Brescia, the Passada between Bergamo and Lecco and the Crocetta (Bergamo) and Giovà (Pavia) passes.
The ban on hunting was introduced following a ruling by the Lombardy Regional Administrative Court, which followed a ruling by the Constitutional Court concerning the legitimacy of an old regional law which limited the ban on hunting only to specific areas. With this initiative, an attempt is made to quickly remedy the situation and establish new areas where the hunting ban is enforced.
The provision is based on scientific studies presented by the Municipalities involved, whose work took into account the needs of the local communities and the indications of the Mayors of Lodrino and Capovalle. Fixed stakeouts located within a thousand meters of the affected crossings will be removed and moved elsewhere.
During the hearing, the Mayor of the Municipality of Capovalle (BS) Natalino Grandi and the Mayor of Lodrino (BS) Bruno Bettinsoli were heard, accompanied by a technician who contested the identification of the Sella di Mandro pass (Lodrino) and the San Rocco Pass (Capovalle). Therefore, the list of mountain passes prohibited for hunting has been modified on the basis of the assessments and evidence presented by the Municipalities involved.
In the final vote, the measure was approved by the majority groups and by the representative of the "Lombardia Migliore Letizia Moratti" group, while the councilors of the Democratic Party abstained, and the Civic Pact and the Left Green Alliance expressed their opposition to the measure. This initiative aims to preserve the ecosystem and the migration of birdlife in the Lombardy region, ensuring the protection of these precious natural resources.
