Operators and specialized companies
The Regional Council of the Lombardia, on the proposal of the Councilor for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry Alessandro Beduschi, has allocated 600.000 euros to the Provincial Police for the control of wild boar and the spread of ASF-African Swine Fever. “With the resolution approved today – comments Councilor Beduschi – we are giving further support to the actions to contain wild boar, as provided for by the Ordinance of President Fontana which, among other things, provides that these activities can be carried out by the Police, also using specialized operators and companies.
The division of appropriations
The total amount of 600.000 euros, distributed over the two-year period 2025-2026, includes 80.000 euros of fixed quota for each province, a quota of 260.000 euros divided in proportion to the number of wild boars killed under control by the provincial police in 2023 and an additional 260.000 euros in proportion to the number of pigs raised in the respective provincial territories. Based on these criteria, the provinces with the largest contributions are Pavia (137.500 euros), Brescia (85.000), Mantua (75.500), Cremona (74.500), Como (68.300) and Bergamo (48.000).
Fight against PSA
“All the tools implemented in agreement with the Extraordinary Commissioner Giovanni Filippini – continues Beduschi – give a further boost to the fight against ASF. Among these, the slaughter of wild boars, the strengthening of road and motorway barriers, epidemiological surveillance of domestic pigs, early diagnosis and biosecurity of establishments and farms”. “In view of winter – he concludes – when the effects of the virus historically weaken, it will be crucial to further strengthen all these actions, together with the active search for wild boar carcasses, to keep the progress of the epidemic under control”.
