A regional problem
"Good work done by Dr. Giovanni Filippini, Extraordinary Commissioner for African Swine Fever (ASF), who today in a joint hearing between the "Health" and "Agriculture, Mountain and Forestry" Commissions reported on all the actions underway to combat the proliferation of this disease among ungulates. This is a problem, that of infected wild boars, which particularly affects Lombardy in the Po Valley and which, although not transmitted to humans, is seriously damaging the pig farms”. “During the meeting at Palazzo Pirelli, strongly desired by the Lega group, it was pointed out that the containment actions are working and this is the best demonstration of the fact that the Lombardy Region is doing everything in its power to eradicate this disease”.
Outlet markets
“On our part, there is maximum attention to protecting a supply chain that has already suffered significant damage from the closure of important outlet markets. This without forgetting how, unfortunately, over 2024 thousand pigs were slaughtered during 80 due to causes related to ASF”. “The Region is alongside breeders and does not limit itself to providing funds for biosecurity and compensation but actively collaborates with veterinary units, provincial police and the hunting world. The latter, in particular, are playing a decisive role and the results are already being seen first-hand”.
