“In skeet shooting, those who want to win use Italian rifles and ammunition, - underlined Nicola Perrotti, president of ANPAM (National Association of Sports and Civil Weapons and Ammunition Manufacturers, a sector association belonging to Confindustria). In this sense, it could be said that in skeet shooting Italy has already won before starting. We are obviously proud - continues Perrotti - of what we have already done in the previous Olympics, but above all we hope to repeat the full number of medals, as in Beijing and Athens, with an eye to the Italian athletes we support through the Federation ”.
SOME DATA OF THE ITALIAN SPORTS GUNSMITH SECTOR (Source: research carried out in 2011 by the University of Urbino, Faculty of Economics)
Italy is the leading European producer of sporting-hunting weapons (covering about 60% of the entire EU supply) and is the most important exporter in the world of sporting, commercial and ammunition weapons: in fact, exports reach 90% of production, particularly in the USA (about 45%). There are few sectors that can boast an import-export scale with these values.
The sector in the strict sense (producers and suppliers) is made up of: 2.264 companies, 11.358 employees and a production value (turnover) of 486.338.624 euros.
The sector is made up of small and medium-sized companies (excluding a couple of medium-large companies for weapons and one for ammunition), very often of family origin. It is a sector that is based on a supply chain that combines artisan and artistic excellence and traditions (think of the engravers) and technologically advanced structures.
"Our productions are based on a great specialization - says Nicola Perrotti, president of Anpam - which means a stable workforce with an all-Italian generating fulcrum: our industry does not import just some raw materials, while it exports 90% of what it produces. We are a solid sector, capable of facing foreign competitors head-on like very few others can do in Italy ”.
