Given due thanks to the President of the Territorial Hunting Area, Chiaramoni Pio, and to all the members of the management committee, for the sensitivity shown to the implementation of environmental improvement and wildlife protection presented indiscriminately from any hunting association. Specifically, we are talking about the project prepared by the ACMA (Association of Water Migrant Hunters) provincial sector of Federcaccia to prepare artificial nests raised by the water and covered on all sides, with the aim of helping Mallards to nest in artificial lakes, making sure to significantly reduce predation by foxes, crows, magpies, nutria, thus preserving the species in this delicate reproductive period.
This method is widespread in the USA, in France and in some ATCs in our country, see Padule di Fucecchio (PT). From these positive experiences came the idea of experimenting everything in the province of Macerata, in the ATC Macerata 2. Despite the problems caused by the Covid19 emergency, the project started effectively thanks to the collaboration of some members of the provincial ACMA: Massimiliano Nociaro, Michele Galassi, Nazzareno Galassi, who took action, with the consent of the owners of the artificial lakes, to place these nests.
We hope to see the first results soon with Germano's little ones intent on swimming in complete tranquility in their natural environment. We recall that the Mallard is a species that overwinters and nests in Italy and we hope that other territorial hunting areas will continue with this interesting project that sees the hunting world increasingly engaged in the concrete management of the territory, aimed at an effective safeguard of the same. and sustainable hunting.
